Owners must ensure that their animals are restrained from roaming off their premises. Animals must also be leashed when in public. Even if the animal is on the owner's property, the owner may be responsible for any injury caused if the owner knew that the animal had a propensity for violent behavior or had attacked in the past.

If a person is bite by a wild animal, such as alligator or tiger, and that animal is owned by someone, you need only prove that the victim was lawfully on the premises when the dog animal occurred and that the attack caused injury to the plaintiff. The defendant (owner or keeper) of the wild animal is strictly liable for all injuries and damages suffered by the plaintiff. Prior knowledge of the viciousness of the animal does not matter.
